Overview

Let’s ensure innovation has a social mission so that #TechFlattensTheCurve for health disparity, food insecurity, energy insecurity, and water scarcity.

Amazon, Facebook, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, IBM, and Microsoft recently joined the Federal Lab Consortium in ensuring that hundreds of thousands of patents could be used in the research, development, and deployment of medical equipment, network products, software solutions, and other technologies to assist in the resolution of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Open COVID Pledge, launched on April 7, 2020 by an international coalition of legal experts, scientists, and technologists, mobilizes companies, universities, and researchers to make their intellectual property available free of charge for use in ending the COVID-19 pandemic and minimizing the impact of the disease. The pipeline of IP being pledged can be used not only for urgently needed solutions to fight the pandemic but also those that mitigate real-world problems caused by urbanization, pollution and degradation, and extreme fluctuations in climate.

#TechFlattensTheCurve is our way of supporting the Open COVID Pledge.

It builds on relationships we have that are associated with the Open COVID Pledge. It has a three-pronged goal that mutually benefits social and policy entrepreneurs, impact investors, business and industry, and the tech transfer community.

Private sector goal: To link social entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and impact investors with a high-quality pipeline of investment-ready and commercially-viable tech ventures designed for targeted social impact in mitigating the pandemic, food insecurity, energy insecurity, and water scarcity.

Social sector goal: To build an ecosystem of investment-ready and commercially-viable tech ventures that positions the sector for serious impact investments.

Public sector goal: To align and mobilize private and social sector stakeholders in mitigating the pandemic, food insecurity, energy insecurity, and water scarcity, especially for vulnerable regions and populations.

Global Health and Development Series

Series 1: Innovation Discovery Events

Virtual Innovation Discovery Events

This VIDE series remakes a process originated and used by the U.S. Navy – the day-long in-person innovation discovery event -- into a 2-hour virtual event to promote the commercialization and social impact application of tech IP in advancing the STI framework for UN SDGs 3, 6, 7, 9 and 11.

Series 2: Accelerator Cooperative

Social Impact Accelerator Coop

This social impact accelerator cooperative remakes a process originally used only to accelerate startups and for-profit tech ventures into a process that promotes the social and public sector use-cases of tech in advancing UN SDGs 3, 6, 7, 9 and 11, especially for vulnerable populations.

Series 3: Deployment and Demonstration

Deployment and Demonstration

This deployment and demonstration series engages communities, including Small Island Developing States, Pacific Island Countries and territories and other coastal communities, in co-designing development and health projects that advance the STI framework for UN SDGs 3, 6, 7, 9 and 11.

Let’s broaden access to innovation tools so that we can all be in the fight against COVID-19 and other wicked problems, together.
